Foods that detoxify the liver are those that help the body in the removal of fats and toxins, which are responsible for increasing inflammation hence causing diseases.

Eating healthy and varied food that is mainly based on natural, non-industrialized and non-alcoholic beverages is the best way to prevent liver problems and excess abdominal fat; that may cause problems in other body organs such as the heart and kidneys.

Here are some foods that aid in the proper functioning of the liver:

1. Broccoli

Studies show that broccoli helps in preventing accumulation of excess fat in the liver, but only in people who do not consume alcoholic beverages. Moreover, broccoli helps in keeping track of blood pressure and it is also rich in nutrients such as calcium, iron, Vitamin C, fiber and antioxidants. Together, these help in regulation of fat metabolism and cholesterol.

2. Green tea

Green tea is rich in catechins and antioxidants that act on the liver, helping it to regulate the production of enzymes and reduce fat accumulation. These antioxidants also prevent cellular damage that may lead to the onset of cancer, not only in the liver but in other body parts and organs.

The benefits are greater when taking at least 2 cups of green tea a day, and the hot drink has more catechins than the cold one. However, it is important to note that the consumption of green tea supplements should not be done by people who already have some liver problem.

3. Coffee

Consumption of coffee on a regular basis benefits the liver by reducing inflammation, cancer and risk of cirrhosis. These effects are due to a lower deposition of fat and collagen in the liver, that contribute mostly to worsening the health of this organ.

To obtain these benefits, you should consume 2 to 3 cups of sugarless coffee per day.

4. Oilseeds

Oilseeds such as almonds, walnuts and nuts are rich in Omega 3 and Vitamin E. These nutrients protect the liver by decreasing fat depostion. A higher level of fat leads to worse functioning of the liver.

Oilseeds can also be taken in snacks such as yoghurt and fruits or when they are added during preparation of salads and healthy cakes.

5. Billet tea

Billet tea contains a compound called lactone that helps in the functioning of the liver and it also aids in the digestion of ingested fats. Apart from digestion, it also helps in the reduction of heartburn and intestinal gas.

6. Beet Juice

Beet juice is rich in antioxidants such as carotenoids and flavonoids that reduce inflammation and improve the production of enzymes in the liver. In addition, beet juice also improves blood circulation by controlling blood pressure thereby preventing heart disease.

7. Olive Oil

Extra virgin olive oil is rich in good fats and antioxidants that are beneficial to the liver health; such as controlling the production of enzymes and reduction of fat depostion in it. In addition, it also helps in controlling cholesterol that is produced and distributed from the liver hence improving blood circulation in this organ.

Aside from having a healthy and balanced diet, one should include these foods in their diet and consume them at least 3 times a week so as to obtain greater benefits to the liver.

Remedies for the liver

Some liver remedies include xantinon B12 and cholagutt. Xantinon B12 contains methionine and choline, which are important amino acids required for the metabolism of proteins and fats in the liver. It also detoxifies the liver as this is useful after overeating. Most especially when the individual presents abdominal discomfort on their right side and they experience a bitter or metallic taste in the mouth.

Cholagutt is a natural medicine contained in artichoke, lavender, marian thistle and peppermint. It can improve poor digestion as it facilitates the functioning of the liver and gallbladder.
